Cisco StackWise-480 technology builds upon the highly successful industry-leading StackWise architecture, offering a premium stacking solution. With a stack bandwidth of 480 Gbps, StackWise-480 provides robust connectivity. Utilizing Cisco IOS Software SSO, it ensures resilience within the stack.
In a StackWise-480 setup, the stack functions as a unified switching unit managed by an "active" switch elected by member switches. The active switch also nominates a standby switch within the stack. This active switch is responsible for creating, updating, and synchronizing all switching, routing, and wireless information with the standby switch. In case the active switch fails, the standby switch seamlessly takes over its role, ensuring continuous operation of the stack. Importantly, during this transition, access points remain connected.
A working stack can easily incorporate new members or remove old ones without disrupting services. StackWise-480 enables the creation of a highly resilient single unified system comprising up to nine switches. This setup facilitates simplified management through a single IP address, single Telnet session, and a single CLI. Moreover, it includes features such as autoversion checking, autoupgrading, and autoconfiguration, enhancing operational efficiency.
