The Cisco Catalyst 8000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN/WAN Modules provide high-density connectivity options, including Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP+ and SFP) and copper (RJ-45) interfaces, supporting 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, and 10 Gbps Ethernet speeds, for the Catalyst 8300 and 8200 Series Edge Platforms.
The C-NIM-1X is a state-of-the-art 10G Layer 3 WAN module designed for high-speed WAN connectivity. This module features a single SFP+ port that supports both 1-Gbps and 10-Gbps WAN connections. The 10-Gbps connection is particularly efficient, as it connects to the backplane via a dedicated 10-Gbps link, ensuring a non-oversubscribed connection. Additionally, the module supports full 256-bit WAN MACsec encryption.
It is important to note that the C-NIM-1X does not support SFP transceivers for RJ-45 copper media, nor does it support 100BASE/10BASE SFP modules. This module is compatible with all Catalyst 8300 Series platforms but is not supported on the Catalyst 8200 Series platforms.
