To assist network providers in meeting these demands, Cisco® has developed the Network Convergence System 5500 Series, which is equipped with features tailored for these deployments, including high port densities, deep packet buffering, and forwarding hardware optimized for such scenarios.
The Cisco NCS 5500 Series modular chassis offers a wide variety of combo line cards to meet customer requirements for flexible interfaces, port densities, and full bandwidth utilization of the forwarding ASIC.
One such line card is the Cisco NC55-MOD-A-S & NC55-MOD-A-SE-S (shown in Figure 1), which provides 12 fixed ports of 1/10G and 2 ports of 40G. Additionally, this line card offers flexibility to utilize different port combinations through 2 Modular Port Adaptor (MPA) bays.
The Cisco NC55-MOD-A-S & NC55-MOD-A-SE-S line card utilizes SFP/SFP+/QSFP+ transceivers on fixed ports, while each MPA bay supports multiple options such as QSFP28, QSFP+, SFP, SFP+, and CFP2. This line card is compatible with any of the NCS 5500 series modular chassis.
