The Cisco C-NIM-WAN-4S is a high-density WAN Network Interface Module (NIM) designed for compatible Cisco 8000 Series Secure Routers. It adds four flexible SFP-based WAN interfaces, providing an efficient way to expand WAN connectivity for enterprise branch, secure routing and Cisco SD-WAN deployments.
The module supports 100-Mbps and 1-Gbps fibre connectivity through four SFP ports, with support for 100BASE-FX and 1000BASE-X connections. Its Layer 3 WAN functionality provides feature parity with the router's integrated WAN interfaces, making it suitable for extending secure WAN and Metro Ethernet connections without requiring a separate networking platform.
With integrated 256-bit MACsec, the C-NIM-WAN-4S helps protect data travelling across WAN and Metro Ethernet links while maintaining high-performance connectivity. Its four interfaces can be used for diverse WAN connections, bandwidth aggregation or link redundancy, providing greater flexibility as network requirements evolve.
The module integrates directly with the Cisco 8000 Series Secure Router architecture and uses a high-speed 10Gbps internal connection to minimise potential bottlenecks. It is supported on the C8231-E-G2, C8235-E-G2 and C8375-E-G2 platforms, with the C8375-E-G2 supporting up to three C-NIM-WAN-4S or compatible NIMs when used with the appropriate carrier adapter.
The Cisco C-NIM-WAN-4S provides a practical combination of port density, fibre flexibility and integrated security for organisations expanding secure WAN infrastructure while retaining the centralised management and application-aware capabilities of Cisco SD-WAN.
